Fall is a traditional time for events such as our Pumpkin Festival because of harvest. Back when most families were working on the family farm together, late summer and early fall was a busy time of year because so many crops needed to be harvested. Festivals were traditionally held on farms and in communities to celebrate a successful harvest. These festivals are also where many of your favorite carnival foods came from, many of which were made from the bounty of the autumn harvest.
Is Your Favorite Carnival Food Made From an Autumn Crop?
Apple Cider Doughnuts
Apples are usually harvested from August to October, making them perfectly in-season for our Pumpkin Fest. We’re using them in our fresh apple cider doughnuts this year. One bite of these beauties and you’ll be coming back for more. They are sure to become one of your favorite carnival food options!
Kettle corn has been around as long as the United States! Settlers in Pennsylvania used to make it as a special treat in the late 18th Century. Corn is harvested in October, so it’s no wonder this sweet treat shows up at so many fall festivals.
Roasted Sweet Corn
This is another corn-based favorite. There is nothing like a delicious bite of corn on the cob! You can get some home-grown sweet corn roasted on the grill. If you haven’t tried this Pumpkin Fest favorite, put it on your list for this year!
